1 Corinthians 9:19–23
Do you remember the good old days?
There once was a time when the air was so clean that you could even go outside. There wasn’t a pandemic. You didn’t have to worry about murder hornets. Grocery stores were stocked with toilet paper. Kids went to this place called “school,” and nobody knew what Zoom was.
A lot has changed in the last six months. A lot has changed at our church. It has been jarring.
People throw around the phrase “unprecedented times,” but there is nothing unprecedented about these times. The kingdom of God has withstood pandemics before. It has survived natural disasters. It has worked through strife and division. (OK, so maybe the murder hornets are unprecedented.)
But the church was designed to adapt. In fact, we see evidence in 1 Corinthians that local congregations wrestled with this even in the first century. Jesus’ death and resurrection meant new realities for the people of God, and not everyone agreed about what worship should look like. In 1 Corinthians 9:19–23, Paul instructed the Corinthians about how to approach change and what our motivation should be.
It turns out, whenever we find ourselves nudged from the status quo, Jesus has gone before us.
Join us this week as we recap some of the things God has done in our congregation over the past six months and preview what is to come!
See you then!
