Sunday, November 13: Signs
John 5:19–47
The conversation between Jesus and the people who want to follow rules for the sake of rules continues this week as Jesus takes the time to explain to them what is happening. Which, to be honest, we all need from time to time. Seeing something from a certain angle can make it seem like we are in the right, and God is in the wrong.
In our passage today, Jesus takes the time to explain what he meant by “calling God his own Father, and making himself equal to God.” (John 5:18)
He describes not only the authority that has been given to him, but also the witnesses to that authority.
He challenges them to consider the ways that others have given testimony to who he is, John the Baptist, the signs and miracles they’ve seen with their own eyes, even the witness of scripture itself. But maybe most importantly, Jesus highlights the obstacles to belief that the religious people have.
Join us this Sunday as we consider the witnesses that proclaim who Jesus is, and the obstacles that stand in the way of us receiving him.
Service times are at 9:30 & 11:00. If you can’t make it in person, you can watch live at those times.
