This Sunday, we look at one of the most popular verses from the Sermon on the Mount. You may be thinking, “How can you pick just one?”
Well, I guess I can’t, because this week we look at the ‘golden rule’, where it famously says ‘Do to others as you would have them do to you.’ But honestly, I don’t think that is the most popular quote in today’s society. We will also look at the famous ‘ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you.’ In my opinion, I don’t think that is the most popular, either.
So, what is the most quoted Sermon on the Mount verse in our society today? Drum roll, please…it is:
“Don’t judge.”
This phrase is thrown around and quoted by Christians and non-Christians alike, which is why I think it fits into the ‘most popular’ category. I also think it is often taken out of context!
We look at the process of exercising good judgment. What does that look like? What are the steps? When can I judge others? Should I judge others? These are all great questions that we will tackle this week.
