Samuel – Preview

Sunday, January 2: Samuel

Preview

It’s a new year, and with that we are starting a new sermon series! This Sunday we will be launching into a thirteen-week series on the life of the prophet Samuel.

Samuel was a remarkable man. He was the last of Israel’s judges—and arguably the best one. He led Israel in multiple military campaigns against the Philistines and anointed each of their first two kings. He was comfortable both serving the priest Eli and confronting the raging king Saul. More than anything, Samuel listened for the voice of God and then did what God said.

Samuel’s story does not begin in the sheep pen with David, on the battlefield with Saul, or even in the tabernacle with Eli. It begins with a woman in prayer. His mother, Hannah, was childless and in distress. She cried out to God for deliverance, and the Lord remembered her.

Hannah’s story and her prayer establish the theme of 1–2 Samuel. It is the Lord who lifts up and the Lord who tears down. Our hope is not in charismatic leaders like Saul or David, but in the Lord who gives life to the lifeless.

Join us this week as we launch our new series on Samuel and look at the God who remembers us.

See you on Sunday!

Service times are at 9:30 & 11:00. If you can’t make it in person, you can watch live at those times.
