We’re in the fourth week of our “Sacred Spaces” series about the high priestly ministry of Jesus out of the book of Hebrews. In Jesus, we see a high priest who is able to fully understand us because he chose to become exactly like us. Our verses this week describe the plan that God had to suffer as we have suffered and to make a way for us to be free from the power of death.Since Jesus became like us in every respect, he understands what it is to be tempted. Since Jesus became like us in every respect, he understands the full spectrum of our emotions. Still fully God, Jesus added humanity to his divinity, he put on flesh and lived with us and he understands us.

An aspect of our Sacred Spaces series that we will be entering into in the weeks to come are the spiritual disciplines that help to animate our lives. This week you are invited to practice the discipline of contemplation, looking at Hebrews 2:10. It reads, “For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.”

Reflect on the reality that Jesus chose to redeem His creation, not by pulling us out of creation, but by entering into creation.
This Sunday we’ll explore the significance of Jesus’ decision to partner with us and the implications that partnership has for our lives.
