Amos
This week we are going to continue our sermon series on the Minor Prophets by looking at the Book of Amos. Amos is famous for two things (no, not his cookies): (1) he was a shepherd and not a professional prophet, and (2) he preached about worship.
The Israelites of Amos’ day were passionate about worship. However, they weren’t that passionate about living for God. This was a problem and Amos had a few words for them.
Like ancient Israel, I long for transcendent experiences of God. I love worship. But here’s the thing—God is a lot bigger than me, and He can only be encountered on his terms. When I try to experience him on my terms, I always come up short.
Fortunately, we do not worship a God who hides, but rather one who seeks. We just have to learn where to encounter him. Join us this week as we look at the Book of Amos and talk about encountering the God who seeks us out.
