Ephesians 1:1–14

  • What’s another word for Thesaurus?
  • Why is abbreviation such a long word?
  • If nothing sticks to Teflon, how do they stick Teflon to the pan?
  • Why do kamikaze pilots wear helmets?
  • Is it possible to be totally partial?

If nothing else, those questions remind us we don’t know everything. There are a lot things we can’t easily explain. This is never more obvious than in Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians and we won’t have to go very far in the opening chapter to find that out.

As some of you know, within the first few verses Paul spills some truth that trips our mental circuit breakers. We quickly discover that we can’t explain everything about God and how He works. There are a lot of questions we can’t answer. But just because we don’t know everything doesn’t mean we don’t know anything.

In the same breath (this opening prayer is a single sentence) the Apostle reveals that we are the most fortunate people on the face of the planet. We know three things for certain: We know who we are. We know where we are going. And we know who is going to lead us. His name is Jesus – “to the praise of His glory.” See you on Sunday.
