Missions Sunday 2023

Sunday, November 12: Missions Sunday 2023 Preview

The opening chapter of the Gospel of John introduces the Incarnation: “The true light,” it says, “which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.” (John 1:9 ESV)The pressing mystery facing the characters in the Gospel is the identity of Jesus. Who do we say he is? The readers know the answer to this question from chapter one: He is the Christ, the Son of God.

John’s Gospel emphasizes the Incarnation: The Son of God, made flesh and sent into the world. But when we get to chapter 20, there is a twist to the story. After raising from the dead, Jesus appears to his disciples and says to them, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” (John 20:21 ESV)

Having emphasized the Incarnation (the Son of God taking on flesh and being sent into the world), John pivots to a message of re-Incarnation—we are to go out into the world and re-Incarnate God through the indwelling Holy Spirit. What a calling!

One of the ways we have taken Jesus into the world over the past ten years or so has been with our Community-to-Community (C2C) relationship with Ushpa Ushpa, Bolivia through Food for the Hungry. It has been amazing to see God work!

This past July we celebrated the end of the C2C. On Sunday, we are going to recap the final trip to those who were unable to make it. But that’s not all—the C2C was such a life-giving ministry for our church that we are launching a new one starting next year! This Sunday we will also find out about the new C2C and ways we can be involved.

Bolivia Sunday is one of my favorite days of the year. I can’t wait!

See you on Sunday!

Service times are at 9:00 & 11:00. If you can’t make it in person, you can watch live at those times.
