We have an awesome opportunity in Gig Harbor. We live, work, and play among some of the smartest, most talented, and most powerful people in the world. This city has amazing potential and a lot of assets. But Gig Harbor also has a reputation of not having a lot of need.I disagree. This city needs Jesus.

In Luke 19:1–10, a tax collector named Zacchaeus has a radical encounter with Jesus. Zacchaeus had a lot of money, but he wasn’t rich. Because he made his money through extortion, his career cost him all of his friends and family. His neighbors all hated him! He had his money, but he didn’t have the things that make people truly rich.

All of that changed when Zacchaeus met Jesus. He gave half of his possessions to the poor, vowed to give up extortion, and he paid back the people he had defrauded. Imagine how the entire community improved just from one changed heart!

I think we can learn a lot from Jesus’ encounter with Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus had a lot of money, but that didn’t mean that things were good at home. But Zacchaeus also had a lot of potential, and Jesus saw this potential. He also was a son of Abraham (v. 9). And when Zacchaeus met Jesus, he changed the entire community!

This week we are going to continue our series on generosity by looking at the difference Believers Fellowship is making in the world. When you give to your church, you are helping Gig Harbor become the place God has called it to be. God is working, and it is a privilege to be a part of it!
