Sunday, December 27: Follow Me
Mark 16:1–8
And they went out and fled from the tomb,
for trembling and astonishment had seized them,
and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
Mark 16:8
The final message in our series will end on a bit of a down note. We’ve seen in Mark that Jesus is truly the Son of God in the flesh, and we’ve learned what it means (and what it costs) to follow Jesus. As Jesus remained faithful to the Father’s will, even when it meant death on the cross, we’ve held onto the hope that his word is true. But this week we’ll pause in the moment between Jesus’ death and resurrection to sit with his people who are afraid.
While the text does go on to proclaim the glory and the final victory of the resurrection, Mark gives us the opportunity to pause in the unknown. To acknowledge the seasons of uncertainty, to recognize the reality of our trembling, and to be watchful for the ways that God is at work in the midst of our fear.
Join us this Sunday as we finish out our “Follow Me” series and recognize seasons of uncertainty, doubt, and fear, and ultimately remember the sure hope that we have in Jesus.
