Family of God – 2 Corinthians 5:17-21

Sunday, July 5: Family of God

2 Corinthians 5:17-21

Over the past month, we have seen a lot of responses to racism and injustice in America. Some of these responses have been good. Others… not so much. If we agree that racism is a problem or if we agree that injustice is an issue… what then? What is the church to do? What should our response be?

In 2 Corinthians, Paul writes to the church in Corinth about his upcoming visit. He was collecting money to take to Jerusalem to give to the poor affected by the famine there. He hoped that his efforts would alleviate some of the racial tensions between Jews and Gentiles—that receiving aid from their Gentile brothers and sisters will finally tip the scales in favor of reconciliation.

In chapter 5, Paul talks about the theology of reconciliation. The church, he says, “is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV). As representatives of heaven, the church has been entrusted with the ministry of reconciliation as if God was making His appeal through us. The cross means reconciliation!

Join us this week as we finish our series on race, justice, and reconciliation. We are going to look at our future hope in the kingdom of God and what that means for the mission of the church today.

The live stream is at 8:00 AM and will be rebroadcasted at 9:30 and 11:00. You can join us in person at 9:30 or 11:00; register at https://ghbelievers.churchcenter.com/registrations/events.

See you on Sunday!
