Sunday, January 16: Samuel
1 Samuel 2:12–36
A healthy reminder for the people of God, especially those trusted with a measure of authority, is that God really does expect things of us. God truly does call us to be his people in a particular way, and there truly is a right way, and a wrong way, to walk out the life he’s given to us.
In our passage this week, we’re given a contrast of the right way, and the wrong way for priests to live out the work of God.
We see the established, and pedigreed leaders of God’s church abusing their position on the one hand, and we see the quiet, steady service on the other. We see a child raised up to fear and serve God, and children raised to believe they are the most important thing in the world.
What our passage this week highlights for us is that, taking from God doesn’t work out in the end. Whether it’s tangible things, or the honor and glory that is rightly due to him, taking from God doesn’t end well.
Join us this Sunday as we talk about the ways that we can be tempted to take from God, and what we can learn from Samuel and his family when it comes to the service of God.
See you Sunday!
Service times are at 9:30 & 11:00. If you can’t make it in person, you can watch live at those times.
