Sunday, May 7: Sacred Spaces
Hebrews 4:1–13
There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God;
for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works,
just as God did from his.
for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works,
just as God did from his.
We live in a world that works really hard to wear us down. Perhaps you have noticed. Life, in our fallen world, is often filled with stress, pressure, pain, heartache, tension, demands, fears and losses – did I leave anything out? – that sap our strength, destroy our peace and steal our joy. At times, we find ourselves panting for breath, longing for what can only be described as rest. And not just a physical rest, but a deep-seated rest for the soul.
The good news is that we find both hope and help in the N.T. Book of Hebrews. It turns out that the Lord wants his people to live in a place of rest, dare we say a “sacred space,” and the writer of Hebrews tells us how to get there. See you on Sunday.
