Joel 2:1–17
There are plenty of times in life where we feel like we “missed our exit.” You’re traveling along, making fine time, and suddenly you realize (or are reminded) that you’re now making fine time in the wrong direction. Which, as it turns out, is not great time at all. And it’s one thing to be headed in the wrong direction, but if we’re making breakneck speed into the middle of a forest fire, it can be that much more important to turn around quickly.
In our passage this week Joel will spell out to the people of God that they are headed for something even more terrifying than a forest fire, they are speeding towards something called “The Day of the Lord.”
The message that follows is pretty straightforward, “Even now, return to the Lord.” There is more hope packed into those two words than we often recognize. Even though you’ve traveled this many miles down the wrong road, rescue is just behind you. Even though you’ve lived a certain way your whole life, the return to God is close at hand. There is distance down a path that we can walk that God will not receive us home, and there is no road so far away from God that we cannot return to him. Even now.
Join us this week as we read through Joel 2:1-17 and talk about the promise of God’s help to us and our invitation to repentance.
See you Sunday!
Service times are at 9:30 & 11:00. If you can’t make it in person, you can watch live at those times.
