Psalm 27

Fear, you might remember, was one of the first effects of the fall. The first couple, Adam and Eve, hid themselves because they were… afraid. That’s not a feeling they had experienced before but it’s been with us ever since.

Here is a short list of common things we fear: speaking in front of people; uncertainty; death; crisis; sickness; disease; losing our job or a child; fear of being misunderstood, rejected, abandoned or criticized; not to mention a plethora of phobias like flying, spiders and snakes.

We live in a fallen world after all where there is a lot to be afraid of and this Sunday, we come to a Psalm that helps us deal with our fears.

Psalm 27 was written by David, the King of Israel, and he had more reasons than most of us to be afraid. All kinds of people wanted to kill him on occasion. First King Saul, later his own son. The nation of Israel had enemies on all sides that wanted to take him out. For that reason, David has some important things to teach us about our fears, and our God, that he learned from his personal experience.

See you Sunday.

Service times are at 9:00 & 11:00. If you can’t make it in person, you can watch live at those times.
