Psalm 1
A number of years ago Andy Stanley wrote a short, but perceptive book, called, The Principle of the Path. It’s about the paths we take in life that lead to various destinations. Some are good. Some are bad. Some are joyful. Some are painful. He develops this idea he calls “the principle of the path” which is essentially the self-evident truth that:
Direction, not intention, determines your destination.
In other words, you can have the best intentions in the world but if you are not moving in the right direction you are going to end up in the wrong place. If you want to end up in the right place you need to be moving in the direction that takes you there. For instance, if you want to go to Tacoma from Gig Harbor but you’re heading west on Highway 16 you are not going to get there.
This brings us to Psalm 1. It’s about two different paths we can take in life; paths that lead to radically different destinations. It turns out there is a path, or way, that leads to the life you want but there is also a way that leads to a life you don’t want. There is a God-centered path that flourishes and leads to life and there is a self-centered way that is worthless and leads to destruction.
So, how do we get on the right path? That’s what Psalm 1 teaches us. See you on Sunday.
Service times are at 9:00 & 11:00. If you can’t make it in person, you can watch live at those times.
