As we’ve explored the life of Joseph and his family, it’s become increasingly clear that God is not in the business of leaving things broken. When Joseph’s brothers tried to get rid of him, God didn’t allow them to succeed. When Potiphar’s wife tried to remove Joseph from Pharaoh’s court, God didn’t let that succeed. In fact, the entire book of Genesis follows a similar pattern. From the very beginning we see people sinning against God, breaking relationship, and the pain that causes.

But God is not in the business of leaving things broken. God takes the failures, the shortcomings, and the outright rebellion of humans, and works it into something new. The tension we live in however, is that there are still consequences to our sin. Adam and Eve really did have to leave the garden, and as we’ll see, Joseph’s brothers really do experience the consequences of their sin, even as they are bound up by grace.

This week we’ll explore the interaction of God’s grace, that constantly draws us back to him, constantly works to restore us, to reestablish us, and binds us up into his family, and the very real consequences of our sin.
