Sunday, November 22: Follow Me
Mark 14:1–31
Mike Tyson once said, “Everybody’s got a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”
And while he’s probably not a great role model in general, there’s some definite truth to that idea. We all know how things ought to go, and we can cruise right along until something as dramatic as a punch to the mouth interrupts us.
In Mark 13, Jesus has reminded the disciples again that the end of some things that are pretty important to them is coming fast. The structures, both literal and figurative, that they’ve presumed to be permanent are passing away.
This week in Mark 14 we’re going to see a few responses from Jesus’ disciples. At least one will take Jesus at his word, and accept that Jesus gets to dictate what salvation will look like. Others struggle and reject his plan. The majority just don’t believe him, and continue to live as though he hadn’t said anything at all. But thankfully, Jesus has provided an assurance for us, established a covenant with us that keeps us bound to him even when we fall short.
Join us this week as we continue to explore what it means to follow Jesus, even and especially when it’s not the route or the means that we would have chosen.
See you Sunday.
