Sunday, June 28: Family of God
Week two of our three-week mini-series called “Family of God” continues to explore our responses to the injustices we see in the world, as followers of Jesus.
Building off week one’s sermon on the imago Dei, by which humans have all been instilled with dignity, value, and worth, this week we’ll address the world as it now exists.
As followers of Jesus, we’re called to live with one another in unity, and unfortunately the present reality that we experience does not always reflect that unity.
Working towards unity means that we have to recognize the distortions and disunity that exist in our world, and be aware of our participation in those distortions.
Addressing racism as a sin that we participate in, either through acts of commission or acts of omission, is the responsibility of a people who are, day by day, being conformed into the image and likeness of Jesus.
James Baldwin wrote, “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”
Join us this week as we continue to face the things that need to be changed, and through the power of the Holy Spirit, work towards the unity that God has ordained for the church.
See you Sunday!
