Habitat for Humanity
God has always had a heart for the homeless. (Psalm 68:6, Isaiah 25:4) As followers of Jesus, we have been called to provide homes for the homeless and clothing for the naked. Habitat for Humanity International is a non-profit, christian organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide. When are the build dates? What times?
July 28th, August 18th, and August 25th. Work days go from 8:45-3:00. There is also a mandatory new volunteer orientation at the Habitat Office (4824 South Tacoma Way, Tacoma) on July 16th, or August 4th. You will only need to attend one of these training days. If you are unable to attend the training day in person, or if you have attended training and are ready to reserve a spot on the job site, you can fill out a volunteer form online at http://believers.tacomahabitat.volunteerhub.com/ and sign up for the build site.
Where are we building?
For all three of our build days we will be working on a home at 14711 W Thorne Lane SW, Lakewood.
How much skill do I need? What do I have to bring?
The best thing about Habitat for Humanity is that you do not have to be a seasoned builder. There will be experts on the build site to help you. Also, you don’t need to bring any fancy tools. Any tools that you DO have will be helpful, but especially a tool belt, hammer, measuring tape, work gloves, a pencil, and safety goggles. Also, bring a lunch and a water bottle!
Can I bring my kids?
You have to be 16 to be on the work site. People under 18 need to be accompanied by a parent.
