Tens of thousands of Afghans were forced to flee their homeland this summer as the country fell to the Taliban’s brutal regime. Leaving everything behind, these desperate people were evacuated on hurried flights and now await resettlement here in the United States.
We are honored to announce that Believers Fellowship is partnering with Samaritan’s purse in sponsoring an Afghan Family who is seeking support and resettlement in the United States. You may know Samaritan’s purse from their Christmas shoebox ministry. This ministry gave them the opportunity over the last few months to help thousands of Afghan families exit Afghanistan safely. There are approximately 50-60k Afghans currently at military bases in the U.S. completing clearance, being supported with initial needs, and awaiting transition to begin settling in the U.S. This is a significant commitment, but we also believe it is an incredible opportunity for the church to demonstrate Christ’s love and compassion, just as the Good Samaritan did. The church should be able to do the best job at helping our neighbor, even those very different from us, walk through this journey.
This is where our particular church can step up! There will be more info to come, but here are the initial needs:
- Financial support– please visit our Give Page! The money will go directly to help our specific family’s every need.
- Pray– please pray we find connections for this Afghan family as they have come a long way and have faced much adversity leaving their home and country and will resettle in Tacoma.
- Practical need– we are looking for a 2-bedroom living space in the Tacoma area. If you have any connections or have a rental you are willing to donate, please let Matt Edwards know at matt@believersfellowship.net.
