Ephesians 6:10–24
“ . . . [T]hey may take our lives, but they will never take OUR FREEDOM!”
I considered painting my face blue and wearing a kilt this Sunday, because Paul’s words in Ephesians 6:10–24 rival those of George S. Patton, Maximus Decimus Meridius, and William Wallace. He ends his letter to the Ephesians by reminding us that we are at war. “Be strong in the Lord,” he reminds us, “and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God.”
Now, unlike in these classic war movies, our battle is not against flesh and blood—it’s against the spiritual powers that hold humanity captive. These powers war against us, and they want to destroy us. But fortunately, Paul reminds us that the battle has already been won. Their fate was sealed on the cross.
We stand firm, but we stand firm in the Lord.
Further, we don’t fight with conventional weapons. We fight with truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and the word of God that brings salvation. We fight with prayer.
Join us this week as we finish the Book of Ephesians and look at Paul’s final charge to us. We are at war, but we don’t have to be afraid. The battle belongs to the Lord.
See you on Sunday!
