We are just a couple of weeks away from the Presidential election. Is everybody excited about this? One thing that came up early on in the debates was the idea of building a wall on the border between the U.S and Mexico. It’s an idea that has been both revered and reviled. Some think it’s a terrific idea. Others think it’s crazy.As a result of this proposal, however, a number of articles have been written about the proliferation of walls currently being built around the world. It’s never been greater and the number is growing as nations scramble to protect their borders from both enemies and refugees.

In some of these articles, the Great Wall of China gets a mention as the longest wall ever built with human hands. Constructed in the third century B.C. it stretches 1500 miles along the northern border of China.

In most articles, the Berlin Wall is brought up. Initially built in the early 1960’s, it was torn down in November of 1989. Some of us remember that personally and for some it is history. But when that wall came down it was a big deal – both symbolically and in reality. It was celebrated all over the world.

As significant as was the collapse of the Berlin Wall, it was nothing in comparison to a wall Jesus knocked down 2000 years before. By his death, Jesus brought down a wall not built with hands, nor extending along defined borders. It was a wall between people but not the kind of wall you probably have in mind. The crazy thing is this: Out of the rubble, God is building something that will take your breath away. See you on Sunday.
